Smiling Balloon Flowers

Every summer these flowers with their delicate purple blooms put on a wonderful show in our front yard. As the flowers emerge, the petals are joined to form a 'balloon'; gradually the petals slowly fold open. Just before it is about to open the flower literally looks like it is smiling. It is this moment I chose to capture in this painting.
